Plate heat exchanger repair and maintenance technology analysis: master these skills to make your equipment more durable!

Mar 25, 2024

Plate heat exchangers are widely used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems due to their efficient heat transfer performance and compact construction. The purpose of this article is to provide a technical guide to plate heat exchanger maintenance, focusing on its structural characteristics, common problems and solutions.

1. Brief description of the structural characteristics of plate heat exchanger

A plate heat exchanger consists of a series of corrugated metal plates separated by a gasket, between which two different fluids (fluid A and fluid B) flow and exchange heat. The main components include heat exchanger plates, gaskets, fixed cover plates and clamping bolts.

2. Plate heat exchanger operation process common problems and solutions

Gasket Problems: Broken and deteriorated gaskets are one of the common failures of plate heat exchangers. To prevent poor sealing and fluid-to-fluid cascading, gaskets should be inspected and replaced periodically.
Securing cover plates and clamping bolts Problems: Loose cover plates and bolts can cause fluid leaks. Periodically inspect and tighten these parts to ensure that the unit is sealed.
Scaling problems: The accumulation of scale reduces the heat transfer efficiency of plate heat exchangers. Regular cleaning is used to remove scale, and specialized cleaning agents can be used, but cleaning agents that can damage plates and gaskets should be avoided.
Plate Breakage Problems: Plates may break due to impurities in the fluid or sudden changes in system pressure. Install a filter to remove large particles of contaminants from the fluid and to avoid sudden pressure changes during operation.

3. Example of plate heat exchanger cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning Procedure: The cleaning procedure includes selecting a suitable cleaning agent, disassembling the equipment, cleaning the plates, drying the plates, assembling the plates and commissioning the equipment.
Cleaning Technical Points: Use a mild detergent to avoid damage to gasket and plate surfaces. Ensure that the unit is fully pressurized and the internal temperature is reduced to a safe level before disassembly. Keep diagonal bolts in place during disassembly to facilitate assembly. Use a pressure washer or soft brush to clean the plates, avoiding the use of hard rubbing agents such as sand. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and dry the plate.
MATERIAL REPLACEMENT: Periodically replace wear parts such as gaskets and replace badly worn plates and bolts as needed. Insulation and anti-corrosion maintenance
Keep heat exchanger insulation intact to prevent heat loss and surface condensation. Regularly inspect and protect metal bases and frames against corrosion.
