Plate heat exchanger is a highly efficient and compact heat transfer equipment, which mainly consists of a series of metal plates that form a channel for fluid flow between them. In the course of the plate heat exchanger, leakage can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as aging of the gaskets between the plates, operating pressures and temperatures exceeding the design range, corrosion or mechanical damage.
Leakage indicator is used to detect whether the plate heat exchanger leakage device, its role is as follows: 1. Detect leakage: leakage indicator can monitor the heat exchanger plate between the small leaks, when the heat exchanger internal fluid leakage through the defects of the gasket, the leakage indicator will send out a signal. 2. Early warning function: in the early stage of leakage, leakage indicator can be sent out in time to notify the operator of the heat exchanger leakage problems, so as to take measures to prevent the situation. Locate leaks: Some advanced leak indicators can not only indicate whether a leak has occurred, but also locate the specific location of the leak, which can greatly reduce the disassembly and inspection work during maintenance. 4. Ensure safety: leaks may lead to a reduction in heat transfer efficiency, and in serious cases, may also cause equipment shutdown, and even lead to safety accidents. Leakage indicator can help operators to deal with leaks in a timely manner, to protect the safety of equipment and production continuity. 5. Extend the life of the equipment: through the timely detection and treatment of leaks, you can avoid mixing of media, reduce the corrosion of the plate, thus extending the service life of the heat exchanger. The leakage indicator can be mechanical or electronic. Mechanical ones generally identify leaks by observing whether or not media is flowing out or by color change. Electronic leak indicators, on the other hand, may include sensors, controllers, and displays that can more accurately detect and indicate leaks.
The principle of operation of leak indicators varies by type, and the following are some of the common ones: Mechanical Leak Indicators 1. Differential Pressure Detection: - This type of leak indicator is usually installed on the media inlet and outlet piping of a plate heat exchanger. - When a leak occurs inside the heat exchanger, the pressure on the leaking side drops, creating a pressure difference with the non-leaking side. - The indicator detects this pressure difference to determine whether a leak has occurred. If the pressure difference exceeds a set value, the indicator triggers an alarm or displays a leak. 2. Visual detection: - By installing a transparent or semi-transparent viewing window near the possible leakage point of the heat exchanger. - If a leak occurs, the medium will flow out through the sealing defect and the operator can see the leak through the observation window. Electronic Leak Indicators 1. Conductivity Detection: - By installing a conductivity sensor in the collector or discharge pipe of the heat exchanger. - When a leak occurs, the leaking medium flows into the area where the sensor is located. - Since the conductivity of the medium is different from that of the surrounding environment, the sensor detects the change in conductivity and triggers an alarm.2. Humidity Detection: - For leaks of water or other liquids, a humidity sensor can be used. - When a leak occurs, evaporation of the leaking liquid increases the humidity in the detection area. - The humidity sensor detects the change in humidity and sends a signal to the control system.3. Ultrasonic Detection: - An ultrasonic leak detector can detect an ultrasonic signal caused by a leak. - Ultrasonic noise is generated when the medium passes through the leak. - The detector picks up this noise and converts it into a recognizable signal that indicates the presence of a leak.4. Optical Detection: - Leaks are detected using optical sensors. - When a leak occurs, the leaking medium may block or reflect a light beam mounted in the path of the leak. - The blockage or change in the light beam is detected by the sensor which triggers an alarm. Integrated Systems - Control Systems: - Modern leak indicators are often integrated with a control system that monitors and records leak data in real time. - When a leak is detected, the system can automatically close the relevant valve, isolate the leakage area, or initiate other safety measures. The design and installation of a leak indicator needs to be tailored to the specific application scenario and type of media to ensure its effectiveness and reliability.
